How do you see the market research industry evolving and how can you contribute to it?
Market research is an integral part of the marketing strategy. It has made the process of gathering and interpreting information about individuals and organizations more streamlined and systematic. With different marketing techniques, surveys and questionnaires the companies are able to get a better picture about the customer needs and wants. In the future, I assume that the companies would be able to analyze the customer needs more accurately and would come up with more customer specific products. The market researchers need to be good managers and should have the skill to analyze the customer needs and trends.
What are in your opinion the necessary skills for market researchers in the present environment?
I believe that the market researchers should have strong analytical skills as the researchers need to analyze the market trends and needs. The researchers need to be creative and should possess strong communication skills. They should be able to understand the customer psychology and should have very strong people skills. The work culture differs within the market from region to region so they should be able to adapt to the different working cultures and should be able to analyze each of them.
How do you see your career unfolding and what are your aspirations?
As said earlier that marketing research is very important for companies in present times I would like to be part of it and play a role of being responsible for the performance of the product and the fate of the company. I have done Bachelor of Management studies with majoring in Marketing and hold a Masters of Commerce in Management. My experience at HT Media Ltd coupled with my education has given me a strong hold in this field. After my MBA from Baruch, I think I'll be loaded with the skills to analyze and understand the market or the customer needs better. Later down the line I see myself as the marketing research guru, running my own reseach firm and with immense knowledge and understanding of market driving forces.
