With hundreds of delegates attending the ESOMAR Congress , we recognise how difficult it can be to connect with a particular person for networking, exchanging ideas or just to grab a drink. The ESOMAR Congress Networking Service (CNS) is a secure text messaging system that enables you to connect with other Congress attendees. The CNS is powered by Headlong.
When you register for Congress 2011, you will be offered the opportunity to sign up for this service*. You will be asked to fill in your contact details and will be sent a unique alias linked to your name and mobile phone number.
Registered users will be listed with their alias in the final printed Congress programme. Using the CNS is as easy as sending and receiving text messages. It’s that simple! Be sure to include your name along with your message, to avoid any confusion.
Typically individual sms messages are displayed within 2-5 seconds from sending. The timeframe for sending/receiving messages depends mostly on the user’s mobile service provider.
No, users will never receive any unsolicited spam from ESOMAR or the CNS provider. Any phone number provided by the users for accessing this server will remain confidential and will never be shared with third parties at any time.
To disable your CNS service, you need only to text the word STOP to one of the Headlong numbers listed below. You will receive a response with the following message: "You have stopped Headlong Smart Interaction Service messaging to this phone. Text START to the Headlong short number to re-enable messaging."
Currently we have four access numbers that give us global coverage. Use the access number that is the most convenient for you:

Terms of Service
By using the ESOMAR Congress 2011 networking service (sms messaging), you are agreeing to be bound by the following terms and conditions (“Terms of Service”).
As a user of the ESOMAR Congress 2011 networking service (hereinafter referred to as Networking Service), I affirm that:
- I have registered as a user of the networking service as an individual person. Any accounts registered by “bots” or other automated methods are not permitted.
- I have provided my legal full name, a valid email address, and any other information requested in order to complete the signup process.
- My login will only be used by me as the registered user – a single login shared by multiple people is not permitted.
- I am responsible for maintaining the security of my account and password. ESOMAR cannot and will not be liable for any loss or damage from your failure to comply with this security obligation.
- I am responsible for all content posted and activity that occurs under my account
- I will not use the networking service for any illegal or unauthorized purpose. I will not, in the use of the networking service, violate any laws in the networking service jurisdiction (including but not limited to copyright laws).
- As a registered user of the ESOMAR networking service, I explicitly confirm consent to receive sms messages from ESOMAR and other registered ESOMAR networking service users.
Service Usage, SMS text messaging and Rates
The availability and quality of the sms messages from the networking service is dependent upon the conditions and limitations of your personal service contract with your service provider.
Headlong SMS text messaging services are offered to approximately 90% of the world's mobile phone users and the coverage is updated constantly. Please contact ESOMAR for the latest coverage lists by operator.
The nature of SMS text message interaction with Headlong is transactional, not subscription-based. The ESOMAR networking service only sends text messages to mobile phones in immediate response to a Mobile Originated message to our short codes.
ESOMAR will not rent, sell, or otherwise share the phone numbers of people who send text messages with any networking service users or third parties of any kind. Phone numbers are used internally for correlating answers between interactions and for preventing multiple text message responses on the same interaction, if the interaction creator wishes to do so.
Use of the networking service will incur sms messaging charges based upon your service provider’s international sms messaging rates. ESOMAR is not responsible for any charges incurred from your service provider when using the networking service.
Termination of Service
ESOMAR, in its sole discretion, has the right to suspend or terminate your account and refuse any and all current or future use of the networking service, for any reason at any time. Such termination of the networking service will result in the deactivation or deletion of your Account or your access to your Account, and the forfeiture and relinquishment of all content in your Account. ESOMAR reserves the right to refuse service to anyone for any reason at any time.
Modifications to the Service and Prices
Headlong reserves the right at any time and from time to time to modify or discontinue, temporarily or permanently, the networking service (or any part thereof) with or without notice.
ESOMAR shall not be liable to you or to any third party for any modification, networking messaging rate charges or changes, suspension or discontinuance of the Service.

You must not transmit any worms or viruses or any code of a destructive nature.
ESOMAR reserves the right to renegotiate or terminate accounts that tamper with metering, or abuse generally acceptable and reasonable quantities of interactions.
Anti-Spam
Spamming shall mean:
- a situation where an sms message is sent to the users encouraging them to call or send a sms to a premium rate number.
- any unlawful or fraudulent SMS.
ESOMAR will immediately block the customer’s account if it believes that the account is being used for SPAM or unsolicited bulk messaging.
Please note that neither unsolicited messages nor any other messages that are in breach of international laws may be sent via the Service and that any consequences arising from the breach of international laws will be borne by the customer.
ESOMAR does not assume any responsibility for the content of the sms messages sent via the networking service. ESOMAR hereby underlines the customer’s responsibility: The customer undertakes that it will not knowingly use ESOMAR networking services for any illegal, immoral or improper purpose or in any manner which contravenes the law or regulatory requirements of the appropriate jurisdiction or knowingly in any way which is indecent or offensive or in any way that could be considered as Spamming, and undertakes not to allow any third party to do so.
Networking service users shall indemnify ESOMAR against all costs, claims, expenses and liabilities arising out of any claim, action, demand, allegation or proceeding made or brought by any person or entity (including, without limitation, any Regulator or Operator) based on an allegation that any SMS or Transaction pursuant to an Addendum, or Customer’s use of the Services, infringes the rights of any third party or any law or regulation, or any terms directly or indirectly imposed by an Operator, including, without limitation, the Data Protection Directive (95/46/EC), the Directive on Privacy and Electronic Communications (2002/58/EC), the CAN-SPAM, the Electronic Commerce Directive (00/31/EC), the Distance Selling Directive (97/7/EC), and any national implementations, thereof, in any jurisdiction.
Customer will inform ESOMAR immediately if it has reason to believe that there is likely to be a use of the Service in any manner which would be likely to infringe this Agreement.
The failure of ESOMAR to exercise or enforce any right or provision of the Terms of Service shall not constitute a waiver of such right or provision. The Terms of Service constitutes the entire agreement between you and ESOMAR and govern your use of the Service, superceding any prior agreements between you and ESOMAR (including, but not limited to, any prior versions of the Terms of Service).
Questions about the Terms of Service should be sent to support@esomar.org.
