ESOMAR REPRESENTATIVES
ESOMAR Representatives are its ambassadors within their country. They are part of the global team of people who further communicate ESOMAR's mission to promote the use of opinion and marketing research for improving decision making in business and society worldwide.
Acting as ESOMAR's Ambassador in your country you would contribute to your country being represented amongst the worldwide market research community. All our representatives are respected professionals with extended experience. They are involved with both ESOMAR activities and other local professional activities. They are you point of contact for ESOMAR.
- WHAT IS THE ROLE OF A REPRESENTATIVE?
The role may vary slightly depend on how many members there are within a country and also the skills and experience of the Representative. However the role typically involves:
- Recruit, screen and interview new members within your country.
- To promote the ICC/ESOMAR International Code of Practice and professional standards.
- Hold local meetings for members and for the local Market research Industry as a whole.
- Contribute to industry initiatives such as the Global Market Research Report.
- Liaise with industry leaders, associations and other relevant organisations for any market related issues.
- Provide ESOMAR with feedback from members and on developments affecting the international research community.
- Promote ESOMAR's Conferences, workshops, publications and educational programmes to both members and non members.
- When relevant, help promote the value of research and raising awareness of professional standards.
- WHY BE A REPRESENTATIVE?
There are a number of key reasons why people volunteer as Representatives:
- Being the spokesperson for your country and the local Market Research Industry.
- Having access to early information and regular updates on ESOMAR and the MR industry.
- Being part of and gaining access to an international community of Market Research professionals and around 77 other Representatives, worldwide.
- Promotion and added value through the ESOMAR PR network and ESOMAR speaking opportunities at specific events and projects.
- International recognition amongst peers.
- Training and yearly updates with other Representatives of the region.
- HOW TO BECOME A REPRESENTATIVE?
There are currently 77 Representatives in 73 different countries. In the past ESOMAR Council members selected new Representatives from the nominated candidates and these representatives could remain in that position for a number of years. However, the election process has been revised and all Representatives serve for a two year term, with an option to stand down or to be nominated for elections for a 2nd term. There is a maximum tenure of 6 years.
In the month of December, we will have our call for nominees. Once the relevant information is received, each candidate will be validated and the referees checked.
In January 2011 once the candidates are finalized, we will post their details on the election website. We will then email all members in your country to state that the election site is open. You will then be invited to read each profile and then click on the preferred candidate to place your vote.
The election website will be open for 14 days and then the site will close to all votes. Upon completion, a tally will be conducted and the New Representative finalized. ESOMAR will then inform all members on who the successful candidate is.
