FUTURE TALENT MEETS THE INDUSTRY

ESOMAR Congress 2007

Name: Andreas Koukas

Nationality: Greek

Year of birth: 1982

University: Cranfield University – School Of Management

Title of course/programme: MSc Strategic Marketing

Professional/career ambitions:

I currently work in the Commercial Operations Group of Hilton in the marketing and revenue department. Market research and commercial operations in Hilton go hand in hand.  My role involves gathering and analysing data about customers, competitors and the market in order to provide the basis for sound managerial decisions.
Furthermore, this year I became a member of the Market Research Society in an effort to become actively involved in market research and be constantly informed about the evolution of the industry.
Finally, attending the ESOMAR congress in Berlin was a fantastic opportunity for me to network with other professionals, gain great insight in the industry and understand the challenges of market research in the future. My ambition in the future is to remain actively involved in market research and follow a career in the market research industry.

Interest in Market Research:

People nowadays are not passive respondents and want to be actively involved in market research due to their increasing interest in brands. Therefore, market researchers should take advantage of consumer’s desire to become “stakeholders” of brands. The fact that internet enables better communication between researchers and respondents will affect market research and the way it is conducted.
Consequently market research will be more customer focused and will have to seriously engage consumers that want to become involved in research. I am personally very fascinated by these new market research opportunities and wish to become involved in market research that employees modern methods and that regards respondents as co-creators of the value of the research.
In a world where the roles of consumers and researchers converge market research is an exciting field for young people with creativity and passion for the industry. My ambition is to be a part of this challenging environment and to contribute to its evolution in the future.
