FUTURE TALENT MEETS THE INDUSTRY

ESOMAR Latin America 2008

Name: Blanca Gabriela Zertuche Mateos

Nationality: Mexican

Year of birth: 1987

University: Universidade Panamericana

Title of course/programme: Administración y Mercadotecnia

1. How do you see the market research industry evolving and how can you contribute to it?

I think in Mexico MR is growing up faster, now the companies are more interested in the consumer wants/necessities and feelings. This is (thinking in globalization) because of the market diversity, in the past the companies developed global products specifically, today they think (actually we all think) globally and they act locally, thinking in products in the market they are developed as global but have local characteristics, of each market, each culture and actually each state/country.
The way I think I can contribute to MR, will be educating both the biggest organizations and all the consumers that MR is a very important tool to obtain valuable information that helps both. And specifically for organizations I would tell the importance of obtaining this information and how to use it and not to waste it; and almost to be patient because this process is timely and accurate.

2. What are in your opinion the necessary skills for market researchers in the present environment?

To be patient, because how I mentioned it before, the process of MR is very timely and also that here in Mexico (for example) the consumers do not have the disposition to bring information to everybody maybe because of the insecurity or the time.
And the other important skill I think they had to have is to know the country they want to research, to learn about its culture and desires, etc.

3. How do you see your career unfolding and what are your aspirations?

Actually I really don’t know how is Marketing in other countries but here in Mexico this career is saturated, a lot of people want to study Marketing and of course the labor field is full it is really not very easy to find a good job in a good company. For example at Universidad Panamericana the Mktng and Administration career is the one which have the biggest number of students and graduates.
And my aspirations are, first work in a big company like HP or in laboratories more less 5 years to learn a lot about my career, acquire experience and be able to pay my funding at UP and then I want to obtain a masters degree so I want to study an MBA at London Business School in the United Kingdom.
