5. ESOMAR consults members on revised ICC/ESOMAR International Code

ESOMAR initiated a key project at the start of 2006, the revision of the ICC/ESOMAR International Code which was last updated in 1995. After discussions with major research providers, clients and industry professional bodies around the world, as well as consulting ICC national chapters, ESOMAR now has a proposal which has international agreement.

The revised Code strengthens and updates assurances to respondents about data privacy guarantees and brings them fully into line with legislative requirements. This is vital given the range of issues concerning data privacy that are being tabled by the European Commission.

Next steps

Consultation with ESOMAR members is underway and feedback is being invited no later than Wednesday 28 February 2007. Following this, the adoption of the revised Code will be submitted to a referendum of ESOMAR members planned for later in 2007.
