THE HEALTH SENSE: GLOBAL FORCES IN THE PURSUIT OF WELLNESS
Francesco Morace Co-presenting Tiziana Traldi
Abstract
People are in search of their own, unique kind of wellbeing, which has become a life goal, prior to many other aspects of our existence. The Global Health sector has rapidly become a broad landscape of experiences in which the search for a personal balance pushes people to learn a new self-discipline, drawing from different fields of knowledge, cultures and rescuing ancient remedies from our ancestors. The wide range of services and products that bring the “health promise” (diet products, natural products, alternative medicine) contribute to make of health a “holistic wellbeing”, in which the body and its feelings are the absolute protagonist of virtually any experience. This presentation will explore the 3 global forces of wellness in which the very notion of “health” expands to a range of markets that include “medical leisure”, food and cosmetics providing an overview of the future global health care sector.
- Therapeutic wellness: the role of the expert / protective self
- Cultural wellness: the social geography of well-being /spiritual self
- Self-discipline: bodily engagement with the material world /explorational self
