FUTURE TALENT MEETS THE INDUSTRY

Asia Pacific 2008

Name: MA Hua

Year of birth: 1982

University: Shanghai Jiao Tong University

Title of course/programme: Dual Master Degree Program (MBA + Master of Engineering)--The CLFM Program

1. How do you see the market research industry evolving and how can you contribute to it?

See answer below (question number 3).

2. What are in your opinion the necessary skills for market researchers in the present environment?

Firstly and also the basic quality is strong will , you know, there will be some difficulties if you want to get some data or confidential information, so you have to prepared well for these potential obstacles.
Secondly you should be a fast learner because we will always face some unfamiliar industries and areas, so we have to learn some basic knowledge and concepts in a very short time.
Thirdly, be willing to communicate, as well as logic thinking, which doesn’t just mean good at communicating and thinking. You should love to do this kind of things, whole hearted.

3. How do you see your career unfolding and what are your aspirations?

I would like to answer these two questions together.
As for the market research industry, in my opinion, the most important thing need to improve is the sharing of information and some technical methods such like the statistic analytical skills or some analytical software.
With a strong engineering background, I would like to combine the management skills and technical skills together, which is also my program's theme. And the manufacturing background can contribute me to some specific industries or areas, as well as the information shared by 15 sponsors of our program.
Talking about the career plan, I should say, everything is possible, I can not describe what will exactly happen 2 or 5 years from now on. But I may tell some possibilities about the way I am now considering.
The first is to be a professional manager. After my MBA study, I would like to join one of our sponsor companies such like Apple. The well established system and many talents from all over the world are worthy to learn. Also, the different, respectful and outstanding way of thinking will be the fortune for my future.
Besides, there will be another choice which is open my own business, during the previous working and study, I found myself willing to study from the old cases, reorganize them, summarize some experiences and share them with others. So I think probably it will be good for me to open a consulting or research company.
