Good quality, good business

Moving offline to online
Why one commercial broadcaster wouldn’t look back

Simon Scholes & Christine Connor

Abstract

This presentation details how the establishment of a new, online audience appreciation panel for ITV has changed the nature of the research process throughout the organisation.  As well as looking at the business reasons for an online approach, the presentation will detail the variety of projects now offered by this approach.  In particular the presentation will demonstrate how the research is able to work at the same speed as the core business areas within the company, contributing to day-to-day business decisions.

Simon Scholes

Simon has spent the bulk of his working life, in various research roles with the UK’s largest commercial broadcaster ITV.

Post graduation, he joined Central Television; followed by stints at a full service advertising agency and a media consultancy.  He then rejoined ITV at LWT which had a strong reputation for “shiny floor” Entertainment shows; then to Granada, which had greater focus on Drama and Factual programming.  This provided a rich blend of experience for future programme research roles.

Post the merger of ITV, he now is part of a research team that comes under the strategy team.  This places research at the very heart of the decision making process; providing impartial and objective information for ITV’s leadership team.

Simon and his team are specifically responsible for providing research support for the Production businesses within ITV.
