Societal changes
Mariann (Maz) HardeyAbstract
When we have become used to making connections across social media, Maz Hardey explores the consequences for effective daily social interaction. She offers explanation of the supposedly unifying framework of Web 2.0 to assess the authority and influence of spin, blag and blog.
Mariann (Maz) Hardey
You can classify me as a social analyst who is at the forefront of what is emerging as a newly digitally connected culture. This culture I have chosen to frame as the pivotality of social technology that includes Web 2.0 and Social Networking Sites (SNSs).
Currently my research is about the pervasive and collective social identity that serve as extensions for social interaction and form part of a ‘network-connected’ culture that I propose is underlined by a social presence composition. As much an attitude-of-mind as an indication of the capacity of the technology the replication of friend connections provides a sense of valued and emotive interaction. This is recognised as being part of informal and expected social surveillance that create new social opportunities and has implication for societal action.
Part of theorising and analysing such cultural change is being a part of the same social landscape. This means, in the name of research, I surf Facebook, tweet on Twitter, write for numerous blogs and contribute to other media channels. The collection of my latest writings can be followed at http://properfacebooketiquette.blogspot.com/; http://web2mediatalk.blogspot.com/ and http://girlygeekdom.blogspot.com/. And of course I have my own webpage http://mazphd.googlepages.com/mazhardey'swebsite.
