Susana González Aktories

Director of Semiotic Research, Semion SC, Mexico

Susana González Aktories taught semiotics at the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, Campus Ciudad de México. Currently, she teaches at the Faculty of Literature of the UNAM, Mexico’s state university.

Musician and writer, Susana is founder and coordinator of the Seminar on Music Semiology of the National School of Music, UNAM, where she also organised the “Diplomado Internacional la Semiología y la Música” and the “Diplomado Internacional de Semiótica Aplicada”. As part of this ongoing passion she co-founded the International Music and Media Research Group, a division of the International Semiotics Society. Since July 2004, she is vice-president of the Mexican Association on Visual Semiotics.

Among her publications are the books Antologías poéticas en México (1996), “Muerte sin fin”. Poema en fuga (1997), “Sensemayá: juego de espejos entre música y poesía, co-written with Roberto Kolb (1997) and Reflexiones sobre semiología musical, co-edited with Gonzalo Camacho (forthcoming).

At the end of 2003, she started Semion, a semiotgic research and planning consultancy. Among its other clients, Semion in currently involved with strategic planning for the Government of the State of Nuevo León, to reposition Monterrey as the capital of culture for Mexico.
