Susan WegnerAbstract
The phenomenon of Web 2.0 has created a lot of buzz in the industry and is about to influence and change existing business models and upcoming product innovations. Evolution of the Web has led us to the Web 2.0 where the users have changed from a solely passive consumer to a more active producer role. Currently Web 2.0 services focussing on mobile aspects show particularly high rates of growth: Mobile data is growing rapidly and becoming more and more mainstream.
Being mobile in a world of congested streets and highways, overcrowded parking lots, and delayed trains is a constant source of hassle and experienced as stressful and overly time-consuming. People increasingly seek convenience and ways to be productive while on the move. They want to be entertained and relieved from organizational bits and pieces on the trip.
Constant increase in mobile device capabilities as well as connectivity lead to mobile devices that have already acquired multimedia functions previously found on internet PCs only. Web 2.0 services for mobile devices enable a whole range of new possibilities for social interaction and information retrieval, e.g. in combination with location based services. The presentation will focus on the mobile technology trends and future applications addressed by some Deutsche Telekom AG Laboratories activities.
