Tony Fernandes

Tony Fernandes  is an entrepreneur and the founder of "Tune Air Sdn. Bhd.", who introduced the first budget no-frills airline to Malaysians with the tagline "Everyone can fly". He attained to prominence by turning AirAsia, a fledging government-linked commercial airline, into a highly successful public-listed company. Under his wings, AirAsia went on to revolutionize the air travel industry in Malaysia and pioneered the low cost phenomenon in Asia.

Tony was educated in United Kingdom. Upon graduation in 1987, Tony joined Virgin Group before moving on to Warner Music International London in 1989. At the age of 28, Tony became the youngest person in recording industry’s history to head Warner Music Malaysia - a role, which he excelled in. Tony’s last serving role at Warner Music was as Vice President ASEAN.

Fernandes has so far received several awards for his outstanding achievements:

• Recently emerged as the "Malaysian Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year 2006" and will carry the flag and represent the country at the world award event at Monte Carlo in May 2007. This world award event is stage to more than 40 of the best entrepreneurs from around the globe who will compete for the 7th Ernst & Young World Entrepreneur Of The Year® Award which has become the global benchmark of entrepreneurial excellence.
• Made the list of Business Week’s "25 Stars of Asia" in 2005.
• "Emerging Entrepreneur Of The Year®" in the Ernst & Young "Entrepreneur Of The Year Awards" in 2003.
• "Malaysian CEO of the Year 2003" in December 2003 — a highly acclaimed recognition, so far awarded to only nine other recipients in the country, by American Express and Business Times. The award was an initiative to recognize entrepreneurial and managerial expertise and performance among leaders of Malaysian corporations.
• International Herald Tribune Award for the "Visionaries & Leadership Series", for his outstanding work in AirAsia.
• Named the joint winner of the CEO of the Year 2003 award by American Express Corporate Services and Business Times.
