9. Developing the ISO Standard on Access Panels
By Lex Olivier, Director General and Erich Wiegand, President, EFAMRO
EFAMRO has made significant progress in developing an ISO Standard for internet access panels. The objective is to apply the quality requirements specified in the standard ISO 20252 to access panels and to harmonize existing national standards on this issue.
Next steps: There will be meetings in Berlin in September 2007 where the ‘Committee Draft’ of the standard will be finalised and in Sydney in May 2008 where it is expected that the ‘Draft International Standard’ will be agreed.
Once the ‘Committee Draft’ is approved, it will be distributed to all 22 countries classed as participating members of the ISO technical committee for comments. As the last step in the development process the final ‘Draft International Standard’ will be sent out to all ISO technical committee members for final ballot. Assuming that the vote is positive the standard should be adopted in the second half of 2008.
