Workshop overview
This workshop is the next step on your path from being a good presenter to a great presenter. The session reviews the latest trends in presenting and works with you to create a step change in the effectiveness of your presentations.
In the last few years the context for presentations has changed, old certainties have become dated and redundant. The two key drivers of this change are audiences and innovation.
Audiences have become time poor and the attention span of even senior executives is getting ever shorter. Ten years ago we were competing with university lecturers in terms of passing on knowledge. Now we are competing with the likes of CNN and the Discovery Channel in terms of engaging our audience.
Innovations from the leading presenters are setting a higher and higher set of expectations. People like Larry Lessig (creator of the Lessig style) and Garr Reynolds (author of PresentationZen) are redefining how presentations are constructed and delivered. Other innovations, such as Pecha Kucha, are breathing new life into the presentation as an art form. Market researchers need to be aware of these trends and selectively use them to engage and inform audiences.
Key topics included in the workshop are:
- Creating a narrative theme
- The use of rich media
- When less is more
- Presenting in English to a multicultural audience
- Presenting in English for non-native speakers
- Creating infotainment
- Dealing with the ‘slidument’ problem – when presentations have to function as reports
- Dealing with problems
- Tips and hints
The workshop is a mixture of taught material, group sessions, and individual endeavour.
We all know that presentations vary, depending on the context. This workshop will cover the following:
- Face-to-face debriefs
- Webinar debriefs, using technologies such as WebEx
- Workshop debriefs
- Pitching for business
- Internal presentations, including extracting insights from agency presentations
- Conference presenting
This workshop is an invaluable session, helping you create and deliver even better presentations, and will provide you with: a checklist for presenting, references for further reading, a guide to ‘Things audiences don’t understand’, and the results of some primary research amongst clients, looking at what works and what doesn’t.
