ESOMAR launches 2010 Young Researcher of the Year Competition
The topics for this year will be:
- AIDS/HIV and children and youth
- Sustainable Energy and
- The Digital Divide
Last year over 80 submissions were received from young researchers from across the globe on the subjects of Ageing, World Poverty and Global Warming. The winning submission was from Annelies Verhaege of Belgium on the topic of Ageing and the use of netnography and social networks to improve quality of life for the elderly. Verhaege will present her winning paper at ESOMAR’s Global Healthcare Conference in New York on March 1, 2010.
“Developing young talent in the research industry is a key priority for ESOMAR “said Finn Raben, ESOMAR Director General. “Although it may be a cliché to say that the future lies with our youth, there is in every cliché an underlying truth. The ESOMAR Young Researcher of the Year Award is an integral part of our Developing Talent initiative which seeks to support the growth and development of young researchers in as many ways as possible. We were delighted with the tremendous response and high quality of the submissions we received last year and look forward to engaging with even more participants for our 2010 competition.”
To enter the competition, all participants must be under the age of 30, with exceptional talent and commitment to a fair and just world. Submissions should demonstrate how research can significantly improve understanding of the three selected topics and can contribute to the way society and businesses think and act. Mentors from UNICEF, Shell Hydrogen and Unilever will offer professional guidance and moral support to participants throughout the process.
An international jury of industry leaders, chaired by ESOMAR, will review each submission and three finalists will be selected and invited to present at the ESOMAR Congress in Athens, 13-16 September, 2010.
