Are special types of interviewers needed for interviewing children and young people?
-
It is not usually necessary to use special interviewers and many experienced interviewers are quite capable of being trained for such work but they should be carefully screened for their suitability.
The behaviour of interviewers must clearly be such as to inspire confidence among the public. They should be trained in the precautions to be taken, for instance, in the correct methods of obtaining permission and the steps needed to establish good rapport with children. Interviewers must be familiar with, and conform to, the requirements of ESOMAR’s Guideline on interviewing children, the ICC/ESOMAR International Code, and any national code or guideline on interviewing children and young people.
